DarkCut privacy policy
Last updated October 23, 2026 · DarkCut 1.1.0DarkCut is a video editor that works on your device. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it. It is published by Dark Matter (“we”). Questions: zackcross6@gmail.com.
The short version
- Your projects, media and exports stay on your device. We do not run servers that receive them.
- There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking.
- Optional features send specific data to services you choose to use, as described below, and only when you use them.
- We receive nothing from you unless you email us (for example, a report of AI output).
What stays on your device
Projects, imported media, exported videos, settings, saved progress of Auto Lyrics and of animations Claude is writing, and any API keys you enter. API keys are stored only in the app on your device and are excluded from Android backups; each key is sent only to the service it belongs to.
Optional features that send data elsewhere
- Claude (Anthropic). If you connect your own Anthropic API key or your own proxy server, and use a Claude feature (animations, font art, the lyrics check and song recognition in Auto Lyrics, the Command Bar), DarkCut sends Anthropic what that feature needs: the text you type, caption and lyric text, words transcribed from your song, and a summary of the project (length, shape, colours, fonts, layer names). Never your video or audio files. This happens under your Anthropic account and is covered by Anthropic’s terms and privacy policy.
- Speech service (Groq, OpenAI or a server you choose). If you connect one and choose “In the cloud” in Auto Lyrics, the audio of the part of the song your clip plays (mono, compressed) is sent to that service under your account, which returns the words it hears. Covered by that service’s terms and privacy policy.
- Published lyrics (LRCLIB). If “Use the song’s published lyrics” is on in Auto Lyrics, the song’s title and artist are sent to lrclib.net to look up its lyrics. Nothing else.
- Downloads. On first use, Auto Lyrics downloads its speech and vocal-isolation models from Hugging Face (huggingface.co), and the font library downloads fonts you choose from Google Fonts. Like any download, these services see your device’s IP address.
- DarkCut Pro. Bought through Google Play, which handles the payment. We receive no payment details; the app asks Google Play on your device whether the purchase exists.
- Reports and support. If you report AI output or contact support, your email app opens a message to us containing what you write and, for reports, what was asked and which model produced it. We use reports to look into problems and make the AI features safer, and delete them on request.
- Sharing and exports. Files you export or share go where you choose.
Permissions
Internet access, for the optional features and downloads above. Storage access only on Android 10 and older, to save exports to your Documents folder.
Children
DarkCut is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Keeping and deleting your information
Everything DarkCut stores is on your device: delete projects in the app, or uninstall it to remove everything. Information sent to Anthropic, a speech service or LRCLIB is kept according to their policies. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to answer them, and deleted on request.
Security
All connections to the services above use HTTPS. Keys are never included in the app’s code, backups or exports.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published at this address with a new date.
